Paulo Carvalho was born in Brazil and began his piano studies at the age of sixteen. While musical life in his home country was challenging and full, he decided to move to Europe to continue his studies. He chose Vienna, one of the most musical cities in Europe, to deepen his education in piano. There, he was awarded his Bachelor's degree in piano pedagogy at the Hochschule Fuer Musik (Academy of Music). A year later, he accepted a position at the Franz Schubert Conservatory, one of the largest private music schools in Vienna, where he maintained an intense schedule both as a piano teacher as well as a performer.

In 1993, he was invited by the Austrian Nippon Society in Vienna to teach piano and western music to elementary and junior high school students in Matsuo Mura, Japan. At the end of his fifteen month tenure in Japan, he moved to the United States to study at Arizona State University where he was awarded a Master's degree in piano solo performance.

Currently he is teaching piano at the Near North Montessori School in Chicago where he uses his piano method,
The Virtuoso, with great success. Many of his students have won top prizes in competitions. Paulo has also been giving solo piano recitals, as well as chamber music concerts in Brazil, Austria, Greece, Japan, and the USA.
